Altona Community Gardens Inc. is a local volunteer led group which aims to take advantage of open spaces in our community to grow fruit and vegetables and provide access to nutritionally rich foods grown using organic methods and sustainable practices. We are passionate about building community spirit through gardening.

Altona Community Gardens Inc is located at 2a Somers Pde Altona, by the newly refurbished playground and basketball court in Den Dulk Reserve.

Our garden currently consists of individual raised garden plots, some fruit trees, a composting area and herb pots. We also have communal beds for demonstrating and sharing produce, a small hydroponic set up for propagation and other spaces for workshops and demonstrations.

Our Story

We have only just started our journey and are still building the garden since it’s opening three years ago. Altona Community Gardens inc. is an incorporated community group that was formed in August 2015.  Our aim was to establish and maintain a community garden, take advantage of open spaces to grow fruit and vegetables and provide access to nutritionally rich foods grown using organic methods and sustainable practices.
